Takin the test

April 25th, 2008

Hi folks. Been a while, huh? Sorry for the gradual demise of our blogging, culminating in an outrageous length of inactivity. There really is no excuse. I guess life just became a bit business as usual…

So what is there to tell now, I hear you ask? Well I guess what triggered this post was mine and Bec’s recent trip to the immigration office to take our citizenship tests. Yes, we really have been here long enough time to apply for citizenship (2 1/2 years to be precise) and they changed the rules to 4 years after we arrived, thankfully! So a prerequisite of becoming a citizen is to take a test on effectively what it is to be an Aussie. No jokes about shrimps and barbies, please.

Yes, there is the patter of tiny feet in the Foottit household. No, we haven’t reproduced (and nor are we about to!) but we do have 2 new furry additions to our family. Meet Alfie and Obi.

What’s new

March 14th, 2007

It’s been a while (yet again!) and I’ve just been disturbed from my slumber by annoying teanagers on motorbikes, so I decided you all need a quick update on what’s happening with the Foottits down under…

Belated Birthday Blog

January 27th, 2007

Well I just couldn’t let my 30th birthday go by un-blogged about (even if it was over 2 months ago now!).  Especially when my fantastic husband, in particular, made it so special for me.

Back in Blighty

January 19th, 2007

Hi all.

I’m currently sat in a hotel room in Kenilworth, UK, back in Blighty for the first time in a couple of years as I’m here for a work conference. It’s been a good, but crazy busy week and hence I’ve not had chance to get in touch with anyone. It’s been nice being back - even with the crazy weather. It feels more familiar here than in Sydney which has surprised me as we have been settling much better in Sydney of late. Guess I did live here for 20 odd years though…

I’m up to Chesterfield for the weekend and it will be fantastic to catch up with family especially my nephew Joel who I haven’t seen for 18 of his 24 months. Then it’s off to Hong Kong for a quick visit to our office there and then back to Sydney. All go and far too much time on aeroplanes…

Democracy for the Olympics?

November 26th, 2006

I’ve noticed the Beijing 2008 Olympics in news more recently of late as I guess it’s the next major world sporting event (don’t think we can count the Ashes!). There’s a very interesting article on the BBC website detailing the differing political approaches and constraints between London preparing to host the Olympics games, and communist China. Olympic Games the Chinese way.

U2 Vertigo tour live in Sydney

November 13th, 2006

On Saturday night Bec and I were at the Teltsra stadium along with 70,000 other Sydneysiders to see U2 play the final leg of their Vertigo tour after it was rescheduled from May.

This was our first U2 concert so expectations were high and we were really excited. We’d been to the Telstra stadium before to see an AFL match, but still wasn’t quite expecting the enormity of what 70,000 people looked like!
